Why Reading assessments are important?
By Søren Jegindø

Reading could be a simple activity for some and complex for a few. Reading assessments are meant to provide feedback on the skills, proficiency, processes, and knowledge resources that represent reading abilities as assessments are an important part of instruction. The most important aspect of this type of assessment is the specific purpose for evaluation and matching that purpose to an appropriate measure.

Here are 7 benefits of reading assessment.

1- It allows us to make inferences about the needs and strengths of students.
2- Develops motivation for reading or improvising reading.
3 - Captivates stability and coordination of child’s mental, oral and visual sense.
4- Introduces empathy as it develops the meaning interpretation skills.
5- Enhances vocabulary.
6- Introduces the urge of learning.
7- Strengthens writing skills.

Reading assessments thus help educators know a child's specific abilities which further allows them to place students in appropriate reading groups.
