Introduction to Makerspace
By Brian Baptista

A makerspace is a collaborative workspace facility for making, learning, exploring and sharing that uses high tech to no tech tools. These spaces help prepare those who need the critical emerging skills in the fields of STEM. Some of the skills that are learned in makerspace concern design & technology, electronics, 3D printing and modelling, coding and programming, robotics, media production, interactive painting, arts, woodworking and many more prospects.

Here are 7 benefits of makerspace.

1- Creates real-world applications for classroom concepts.
2- Encourages failures into learning experiences.
3- Exposes new opportunities.
4- Builds critical and problem-solving skills.
5- Develops new emerging skills of the era.
6- Fosters innovation through hands-on experimentation.
7- Cultivate logical and strategical thinking.

Makerspace revolves around teaching and learning that is focused on student-centred inquiry. It is not the project done at the end of a unit of learning, but the actual vehicle and purpose of the learning.
